Willson

Willson and aren’t necessarily the kind of siblings who talk every day. In fact, we can go weeks, or even months, without talking. But somehow, when we do, it's as if no time has passed at all. That's just how we've always been.

This year has actually been a gift because I've gotten to see him more than usual. I was there for his MBA graduation, we spent the Fourth of July together, and then, just a few weeks later, he and Amelia got on a plane and flew all the way from Bozeman, Montana, just to spend time with me in a hospital room.

That says everything. They didn't come because they could fix leukemia. They came because they wanted me to know I wasn't facing it alone. While they were here, they did what family does. They brought snacks. They put together a snack basket for my incredible nurses. They organized all of the kids' back-to-school supplies and helped get everything ready for the school year. They hauled away recycling that had been piling up while life had turned upside down.

And they simply sat with me. Sometimes that's the greatest gift of all.

Amelia has been such a wonderful addition to our family. She jumped right in without hesitation, helping wherever she saw a need, and it was obvious that she wasn't there out of obligation, she was there because she genuinely cared.

One of the things I admire most about Willson is that he's completely comfortable being exactly who he is. He's unapologetically himself. It's one of the things he shares with Keeler, and it's a quality I hope neither of them ever loses.

There is something incredibly refreshing about people who don't spend their lives trying to fit someone else's expectations. Willson has always been that person. Quietly confident. Authentic. Comfortable in his own skin.I love that about him.

Our relationship has never needed constant phone calls or daily conversations. But when life gets hard...we show up for each other. And that's exactly what he and Amelia did. I'll never forget it.
