My VVS Girls: Kenzie & Lilly

There are people you hire to work for you. And then there are people who somehow, somewhere along the way, become part of your life. Kenzie and Lilly are very much those people.

When I started VVS, I was trying to build the kind of place I had always wanted to work, a place where people were valued & trusted, laughed a lot, worked their asses off, and genuinely liked one another. And somehow I got ridiculously lucky with the girls who chose to build it with me.

Kenzie came to me after working with me at my last practice, and there is something incredibly meaningful about someone choosing to follow you into the unknown. She is my Type A to my Type B, the person who makes sure the controlled-drug logs are perfect while I am probably wondering where I put my coffee. She is smart, organized, fiercely loyal, and exactly the person you want standing next to you when things get complicated.

Lilly is sunshine in a bottle. She is outgoing, curious, eager to learn, and one of those people clients immediately love. I fought to get her onto my team, and six months later I can say with certainty that I was right to fight for her.

And then I got leukemia. Suddenly, this little practice we had poured ourselves into had to keep going without me. And these girls stepped up.

They didn't just worry about me. They worried about our practice, VVS. About our patients. About our clients. About each other. About protecting this thing we built while I went off to fight for my life.

There is a very amazing kind of love in someone saying, ‘Go. We've got this’. And you being able to trust that. And they have.
