The Cost of Trust
I wish I could tell you that after surviving my marriage, life finally settled down.
Instead, a different battle was waiting for me.
This one wasn't about protecting my children.
It was about protecting everything I had spent my career building.
For more than a decade, I invested in a vision I truly believed in. When I joined, it was a small, single-doctor practice. I saw what it could become, and I dedicated myself to helping transform it into a modern, sophisticated, efficiently run specialty hospital. I wasn't just treating patients, I was helping build systems, grow the practice, strengthen relationships with referring veterinarians, and create something I genuinely believed would outlast all of us. Then someone decided they could take it from me.
Not because I had failed.
Not because I wasn't good enough.
Not because I deserved it.
Because they thought they could.
They underestimated me.
I wasn't devastated. I wasn't defeated. I was pissed.
Not because I had lost my job.
But because someone believed they could take what I had spent years helping build and then threaten me into quietly disappearing.
They clearly didn't know me very well.
This chapter isn't about losing my career.
It's about refusing to let someone else write the ending of it.
It's about standing up to bullies, fighting for what was right, and refusing to be intimidated simply because someone else had more power, more money, or thought they could silence me.
Most importantly, it's about discovering that no one can take away what you've earned.
They can take your office.
They can take your title.
They can even try to take your livelihood.
But they cannot take your integrity, your work ethic, your reputation, or the trust you've spent a lifetime earning.
Those things belong to you.
Looking back now, I can honestly say this fight gave me one of the greatest gifts of my life.
Veterinary Vision Specialists.
They thought they were ending my story.
They were really just writing the first chapter of the best part of it.
