Here we go….we’re off to Texas tomorrow.
I feel strong. I feel good. And after the craziness of last week, I don’t take either of those things for granted.
There were so many scares and so many tests, and, thankfully, nothing concerning showed up on any of them. There were a lot of frightening things it could have been, so I consider that an enormous blessing and a little bit of a miracle.
Now, I’m ready to take on Texas.
I also have this deep feeling that my blasts are finally below 5%. I don’t have the results to prove it yet, but I feel it. We’ll know soon enough. My bone marrow biopsy will be sometime this week, possibly Wednesday, but definitely by Friday, and the results will help determine exactly what comes next.
Of course, I have a lot of feelings about leaving. I’ve shed plenty of tears, mostly because I’m leaving my babies for an extended period of time. That is, without question, the hardest part. But I also know they are in the very best hands. My parents and the rest of my tribe will surround them, love them, and take incredible care of them while I’m away.
Leaving my tribe is hard, too. I have such an extraordinary support system here in Richmond, and the thought of being so far away from everyone makes Texas feel like it could get lonely.
But that’s what FaceTime is for.
And I won’t be doing this alone. My dad is traveling with me. Nafe is coming Friday so she can be there to ask the doctor questions and help me process all the medical stuff, and Sarah arrives Saturday.
So even in Texas, I’ll still have my tribe.
I don’t know exactly what the next phase of treatment will look like yet. So much depends on what the bone marrow biopsy shows. But I’m going into it feeling strong, hopeful, and ready.
Through all the crazy twists and turns, I keep coming back to the same truth: I am incredibly lucky to have so many wonderful people in my life.
Texas, here we come.
